Fabric Description: This lightweight 1930s-1950s silk is translucent and replete with the a classic pattern called asa-no-ha (hemp leaf), a centuries-old geometric design popular in the Edo Period and after; this kimono fabric has a background color of a lighter burgundy red, sort of a burgundy-plum tone; In addition to the interwoven asa-no-ha patterns, note the very large peonies designs interwoven; The foreground designs are three clusters of very large peonies (the largest is 6 inches / 15.24 cm diameter of blossoms); flower colors are light mustard yellow, light gray, pinks & cream with moss-green, dark burgundy and some green leaves;  Motifs are on one side only; slight drape, good for making scarf or accessories.

Colors: Please use our text color descriptions to complement your sense of the fabric due to differences in contrast and color on different devices.

Condition: Excellent for age, with a few small pinholes from the Arai-Hari process.
