Fabric Description: Deadstock never used, Japanese vintage kasuri (ikat) cotton fabric;
Fabric Type: Kasuri (ikat), Lightweight, still firm, and slightly translucent; dark indigo blue(almost black) dyed background, motifs in pale blue and light gray-blue; This is a fairly common ikat pattern, with a symmetrical diagonal grid, with large-scale elements and spacing; larger light-blue elements are 1.5 inches X 1 inch ( 38.1mm X 2.54cm) , the diagonal strokes are 2.5inches X .25 inch (6.4cm X 6.35mm), see closeups; all designs are in fuzzy-edged fashion; same on both sides.

This is an unused Japanese country vintage fabric called kasuri (also called ikat in Southeast Asia; ) ; Kasuri is a labor-intensive process where patterns are made by pre-dyed paste resistance and varying techniques used to create the sorts of patterns seen here.
