Fabric Description: Deadstock never used, Japanese vintage kasuri (ikat) cotton fabric;
Fabric Type: Kasuri (ikat), Lightweight, still firm and slightly translucent; indigo blue(almost black) dyed background, motifs in light-pale blue; This is typical ikat pattern, with a symmetrical reticular grid whose elements are 1 inch/2.54cm X 3/4 inch with hexagonal spaces 1.125 inches/3.17mm at longest dimension; composed of rows and columns formed using small (less than 1 inch/2.54cm) fuzzy geometric shapes; please see close-ups; the fabric is the same on both sides.

This is an unused Japanese country vintage fabric called kasuri (also called ikat in Southeast Asia); Kasuri is a labor-intensive process where patterns are made by pre-dyed paste resistance and varying techniques are used to create the sorts of patterns seen here.
