Customer Showcase: Rebecca KH, USA on YokoDana Kimono
Note about this page:
We like to post on our web site when people have creatively used our vintage Japanese kimono fabrics in their fashion and design work. One of our customers, Rebecca KH, recently sent pictures of 2 pieces (dress and skirt) that she has made using select vintage and antique kimono fabrics from us on yokodana.com. We asked her to tell us about her creative process in making these 2 lovely garments. We thank her for sharing, and are so happy to showcase Rebecca's work below.
Enjoy! Yoko Lewis
Project #1: Dress
For my first project (above), I used a 1980's Kimono silk and a red kimono silk liner to make a dress. I wanted to use some fabric that was new and different to me and was very thrilled to find this site. I used a slip dress pattern and modified it so that the pattern would work with the 14" kimono panels. It didn't come out perfectly, but I still love it! My friend bought some kimono silk and I will be making her a similar dress to this one. I am very happy to have been able to use such special and beautiful fabric!
Project #2: Skirt
My second project (above) was a skirt using 1960's kimono silk panels and pale gold silk kimono liner. I thought these panels were exceptionally beautiful and I loved that they had been used previously in a kimono, they already had such a rich history. I drafted my own pattern for the silk so that I could use as much of the fabric as possible for a nice full skirt. It has a zipper closure and belt loops. The result was beautiful and it is probably my favorite thing I have ever sewn. The fabric was a pleasure to work with and very comfortable to wear!
Thank you for providing such beautiful fabrics!
