Item Details and Description

• Fabric History/Pedigree:  1980s  or earlier silk fabric pieces from a partial deadstock roll found with other similar old fabrics.
  
  
• Fabric Description & Cultural Background Information: 
  
  Fabric is light to medium weight, background a solid brighter tan-beige with motifs in pastel hues of blue, some dark aqua-blues (gradation), red, light-browns, black, and off-white, with intentionally fuzzy boundaries of all designs; the fabric is stiff and is minimally translucent (only if a bright light is behind the silk); 
  
  *This motif is called, Sansui-ga and is a classic motif originating in Chinese art, used by Japanese artists (Hiroshige for example) for centuries; Sansui-ga means, literally, "mountain-water-image" in Japanese.
  
  Elements of Sansui-ga included in this fabric are as follows: all stylized - streams, old-style Japanese houses, various leaves (Japanese Maple), bamboo leaves, pine trees, lotus, and other shapes of flowers all cascading vertically down the fabric;

NOTE: All designs result from a pixelated effect, tiny pixelated lines created in the weaving/dyeing process (Please see closeups); selvage on both sides is .25 inch (6.35mm) fabric slightly stiff, little drape; same on both sides.
